CORRELATING VALUES
Measuring crude oil normally involves more than measurement of the total volume. Since the crude oil is usually composed of free water and sediment (BS&W- bottom sediment and water). The “bottom water” is always a problem because it normally is “bottom water” which starts off at the bottom of a tank or vessel and then is pumped into a pipeline where it stays at the bottom.
International Sampling methods recommend adequate mixing of the crude oil under test for best results. The aim of this is to produce a homogeneous fully mixed crude oil and water mixture so that both sampling and online measurement are representative.
