Today, a common centrifuge
rotates at approximately 5000 to 7000 rpm with some rotating
at speeds of up to 50,000 rpm. The centrifuge employs
the marvel of centrifugal force, which occurs when high-speed
rotary motion pushes substances outward from a spinning
axis, creating thousands of G-force (gravity) to increase
the speed of separation. |

Centrifugal Oil Separator- How it works
The mechanism of how these work is due to the oil having a lower specific gravity than water, in other words oil is lighter then water, if you mix oil and water in a jar and leave it over a period of time the mix will separate

Mineraloil Systems is
concerned with the centrifugal treatment of mineral oils
and their derivatives. Its main applications are in the
marine sector, gas turbine and diesel engine power plants,
the oilfield industry, as well as in the maintenance of
production facilities and treatment of waste oil. Mineral
Oil Centrifuge with Solid Wall Bowl . Applications might
include Rolling mills, disposal companies, paper industry,
automotive, metalworking, big machinery. Some applications
are Continuous treatment of lube oils, purification of
coolant emulsions and wash-water,oil-water mixtures ...More

New P-separator
for oil treatment
The new P-separator is based on the S-separator’s
mechanical platform, but designed for lubricating and
marine diesel oils, the P-separator complements the
S-separator to create a dual approach to fuel and lubrication
oil treatment. Since its introduction to the market,
Alfa Laval’s best-selling S-separator has led
the way in marine separation applications. Developed
to meet even the toughest performance demands, it is
the first separator to meet the requirements of the
Marine Separation Performance Standard (CWA 15 375)Alfa
Laval’s new P-separator, which is built on the
S-separator platform, provides a perfect complement
to the S-separator’s Alcap technology. Though
it shares the S-separator’s economical and low-maintenance
features, the P-separator is based on less advanced
purifier technology and is intended for well-defined
oils with fewer variations. This dual separator offering
creates a fuller range of options for ship owners and
shipyards. By enabling purpose-specific separation with
the best technology available, it lets customers choose
the option that best meets their needs, economy and
automation requirements.
Different oils, different needs
Fuel oils and lubricating oils are not simple categories,
but rather represent a scale of varying process issues.
Though all oils must be treated before use, they differ
in characteristics such as density, viscosity and the
level of particles and other contaminations.
