Basically the sump pump sends the water out of the water contaminated or water flooded area to somewhere else like a storm drain or a dry well. Installing a sump pump in your basement is a good defense to prevent over flooding.
Problems with Sump Pumps?
Most problems with the sump pump have to do with the float or the “ball” as some may call it . If for some reason the sump pump does not start it may be because the float may be stuck somewhere or hanging on something in the tank.
If the pump does not start, a simple repositioning of he sump pump might solve the problem. The float is basically acting as a water level switch in the sump. If the pump fails to shut off when the water level is at the bottom of the sump tank it may be an indication that it needs replacing.
